This is Jazzy who was recently hospitalized for a severe infection. Her mom has 7 other kids at home in Medford and wasn’t able to visit the hospital much. Doctors suggested placing a trach for Jazzy. Understandably, mom was overwhelmed with grief and worry for her child. One of our volunteers, Lea, who has 5 years' experience as a mom to a trached child, was able to take some time to go visit mom and Jazzy and talk about what its like to take care of a child with a trach. She was able to help give mom confidence that she had the ability to care for Jazzy at home. Lea was able to go visit Jazzy in the hospital almost every day for 2 weeks. She was able to be there and advocate for Jazzy’s needs when mom couldn’t be.
We have had several families dealing with extended hospital stays or family emergencies. We were able to provide Grubhub gift cards to help alleviate some of the stress from the family.
We have helped provide much needed, free medical equipment and supplies to families in the Portland Metro area. These have included:
" This is Hallie, my beautiful rainbow baby that was born at 26 weeks at just 1 lb 0.2 oz. Over the last year (almost) I have met two AMAZING woman who have helped me advocate for my daughter through all of the trials and health challenges that prematurity caused. Both Lea and Kerri have welcomed my questions and concerns with kindness, honesty, and pure knowledge. Over the past (almost) year, my daughter has had multiple code events, pulmonary hypertension, tracheomalacia, skeletal dysplasia (suspected), feeding intolerances, Craniofacial issues, hearing loss, eyesight issues, oxygen dependence, high vent settings, tube issues, thyroid issues, iron issues, and a plethora of lung/respiratory complications. Because of these two women, I have been able to keep my head up and give the best possible care for my daughter and have grown to feel confident in doing so. I owe these women so much and am so thankful for everything they have done for our family. Kerri and Lea are the true idols of what it means to be “Viktorias Angels” and I hope I can help contribute the kindness they’ve given me, to others as well." -Megan Wierman
